Why “Nature’s Notion”?

In 1995/1996 I was introduced to information that so inspired me that I verbally stated “I want to work with Nature in a more conscious, tangible way.” I’d already been working with flower essences and taken some training in that area. I wanted something more, something deeper. As I continued researching various lines of essences, the book Plant Spirit Medicine by Eliot Cowan “jumped off a shelf” at my local bookstore.

The reading of it touched me so deeply, I cried through half the book. I needed to study with this man. It was 1999 before I finally got that opportunity and was formally introduced to Nature as a true partner in the work that I now find myself performing.

Through these years of working co-creatively with nature via Perelandra processes and Plant Spirit Medicine, I have found that nature is not just plants and earth and trees. Nature is an Intelligence. It organizes and supports ALL life on earth, from the most minute quark to the cycles and rhythms of our bodies and our days, and how they all interact.

As I was casting about for a title or term that accurately describes my work, the term “Nature’s Notion” popped into my head. In my Webster’s Dictionary, “notion” is “a conception, idea; a general concept”.

Nature is always in balance and harmony with everything that is occurring. It has to be; that’s its job.

True, the environment, as we know it, is a mess – but nature is constantly balancing against what we’ve done, are doing, to it. That margarine commercial from the 70’s or 80’s – “It’s not nice to fool with Mother Nature” [sic] often plays across my mental screen whenever there are devastating storms or earth upheavals.

Nature knows how to maintain balance with what IS; and also, how to Create a balance that you or I consider to be harmonious. It doesn’t always look like we think it should or might.

My job is to take what the client presents and, using nature’s notions, restore balance and equilibrium within the energetic and spiritual systems or plant the seeds of the client’s desired objectives for nature to balance and align with.  These changes, then, naturally affect the mental and physical levels.  With nature’s role being primary in my work, the title “Nature’s Notion” is perfect.  Of course.
